2016 ALS Conference Call for Presentation Proposals

Created on Monday, 04 Apr 2016 17:32:05

The ALS Association will be hosting a two-day clinical conference for allied health professionals, clinic coordinators, practice administrators and social workers.

The conference will focus on exchanging information on best practices and emerging trends in ALS care.  Updates on adaptive technologies, respiratory devices, options for augmentative communication, end-of-life, psychosocial and allied health issues will also be featured.

Intended conference participants include speech language pathologists, social workers and counselors, nurses, assistive technology specialists, physical and occupational therapists, respiratory therapists, dieticians, physicians and research coordinators.

The ALS welcomes abstracts for platform and poster presentations on a variety of ALS-relevant topics: innovative approaches to clinical management, potential solutions to challenges faced by people living with ALS, family/caregiver support and outreach strategies. Individual speakers, panel discussions, and research updates are welcome. Speakers should plan on a 30 or 60 minute time slot.

The Clinical Conference committee is particularly interested in receiving proposals that:

  • Provide practical management strategies
  • Report on options, solutions and impact
  • Stimulate understanding and learning for new ALS care services staff and healthcare professionals
  • Expand and deepen the knowledge of seasoned providers
  • Provide practical information about assistive technologies, navigating Medicare, Medicaid and private insurance, the challenges and benefits surrounding telehealth, and quality of life issues
